Masala pori/kara pori is a colourful, crispy and a healthy snack for all ages. This is my daddy’s and hubby’s favorite snack and I love to prepare it often. It makes a lip-smacking combo with hot cup of coffee. It is simple and easy to make at home.
PREPARATION TIME : 5 minutes
COOKING TIME : 5-8 minutes
INGREDIENTS (serves 4 person)
- Puffed rice/Pori - 4 cups
- Mustard seeds - 1 spoon
- Channa dhal - 1 spoon
- Urad dhal - 1 spoon
- Gram dhal/pottukadalai - 2 spoon
- Peanuts - 2 spoons
- Red chillies - 2
- Garlic cloves (with skin) - 6
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 spoon
- Curry leaves - 10 leaves
- Oil - 3 spoons
DIRECTIONS:
1. Get ready with all the ingredients.
2. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, gram dal, red chillies, peanuts, garlic cloves and curry leaves, and fry til the dal(s) turn pale brown colour.
ADDITIONAL TIPS:
=> As pori has salt in it, I haven’t added salt. If needed you can add ¼ spoon salt.
=> If you need more spicy you can also add 1 spoon red chilli powder.
=> Garlic gives nice flavour to the masala pori. If you don’t like you can skip garlic.
=> You can also add a pinch of asafoetida powder/hing.
=> You can also add cashew nuts and sliced almonds while roasting the dals.
