CRISPY MASALA PORI/KARA PORI

Masala pori/kara pori is a colourful, crispy and a healthy snack for all ages. This is my daddy’s and hubby’s favorite snack and I love to prepare it often. It makes a lip-smacking combo with hot cup of coffee. It is simple and easy to make at home.

 PREPARATION TIME : 5 minutes

 COOKING TIME         : 5-8 minutes

 INGREDIENTS (serves 4 person)

  •  Puffed rice/Pori                      - 4 cups
  •  Mustard seeds                       - 1 spoon
  •  Channa dhal                           - 1 spoon
  •  Urad dhal                                - 1 spoon
  •  Gram dhal/pottukadalai       - 2 spoon
  •  Peanuts                                   - 2 spoons
  •  Red chillies                              - 2
  •  Garlic cloves (with skin)        - 6
  •  Turmeric powder                   - 1/2 spoon
  •  Curry leaves                            - 10 leaves
  •  Oil                                             - 3 spoons

 DIRECTIONS:

 1. Get ready with all the ingredients.


2. Heat oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, gram dal, red chillies, peanuts, garlic cloves and curry leaves, and fry til the dal(s) turn pale brown colour.


3. Add turmeric powder and saute well for a minute in low flame.


4. Add puffed rice/pori and mix well. 



5. Cook in low flame for 5 minutes to get crispy Masala pori.


6. Allow to cool and Store them in airtight container.

 ADDITIONAL TIPS:

=> As pori has salt in it, I haven’t added salt. If needed you can add ¼ spoon salt.

=> If you need more spicy you can also add 1 spoon red chilli powder.

=> Garlic gives nice flavour to the masala pori. If you don’t like you can skip garlic.

=> You can also add a pinch of asafoetida powder/hing.

=> You can also add cashew nuts and sliced almonds while roasting the dals.
