BREAD PATTIES (VADA)


Bread patties (Vada) is a delicious deep-fried snack that goes perfectly well with a cup of coffee or tea. This instant and delicious patties made with white bread slices and vegetables have a crispy outside and soft inside. Bread patties tastes good with tomato ketchup/mayonnaise and mint chutney. Kids just love this patties and this will become one of their most favourite snack. This is one of the clever ways to use up leftover or stale bread.

PREPARATION TIME : 15 minutes

COOKING TIME         : 15-20 minutes

INGREDIENTS: (20-25 bread patties)

  • Bread slices                              - 6
  • Onion medium size                - 1
  • Tomato small size                   - 1
  • Capsicum small                       - 1
  • Carrot                                       - 1
  • Coriander leaves chopped    - 2 spoons
  • Green chilli                              - 1
  • Tomato sauce                          - 2 spoons
  • Red chilli sauce                       - 1 spoon
  • Maida/Wheat flour                - 3 spoons
  • Cornflour                                  - 2 spoons
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt
  • Water

DIRECTIONS:

1. Get ready with all the ingredients. Grate the carrot and finely chop the other veggies.

2. Dip the bread slice in water and squeeze out the water. Crumble the bread.


3. Add all the veggies. Give a mix.


4. Add the cornflour, maida and salt. Mix well.


5. Add tomato sauce and red chilli sauce. Mix well and make sure all the ingredients are blended nicely with each other. (Tip: Do not add water, Sprinkle some water if needed.)


6. Apply oil in hands, and take small portion of dough and make patties. (Note: You can make any shapes you like.)


7. Heat oil in a kadai. The oil should be hot enough for frying. (Tip: Drop pinch of dough into oil, if dough comes up steadily, the oil is hot enough for frying.)


8. 
Once the oil is hot enough, drop the patties in batches (4-6 patties) at a time. Cook for 2-3 minutes.


9. Flip the patties and cook other side. Cook until the patties turn golden brown colour. (Tip: Keep checking, do not burn the patties.)


10. Remove the patties and place in the tissue paper to absorb excess oil.


11. Serve hot bread patties with tomato ketchup or mayonnaise and Enjoy!

ADDITIONAL TIPS:

=> It is an instant recipe, so make sure not to prepare the dough in advance or allow it to sit for a long time as the moisture from veggies and onion alters the dough consistency and patties tend to break while frying in oil.

=> You can add any veggies of your choice. Make sure they are finely chopped /grated.

=> I used maida, you can also use wheat flour.

=> I have not added any spice powders and seasonings, if you wish you can add.

=> The specified amount of tanginess and spiciness is sufficient for me. If you need less or more, you can adjust the sauces accordingly.

=> You can also skip green chilli, if serving for kids.
